Kaltura Intros eCDN Plus for Live and On-Demand Video

Online video platform Kaltura announced a new product in its lineup today: eCDN Plus provides live and on-demand video streaming behind a firewall, and supports both multicast and unicast delivery. Kaltura calls it an out-of-the-box solution

eCDN Plus works with Kaltura Streaming Servers, which use Wowza streaming technology and are placed in enterprise data centers. Kaltura Edge Servers, placed in remote offices or near viewers within the enterprise, connect to the Streaming Servers and stream to the end-users. The architecture greatly reduces bandwidth strains on the WAN, Kaltura says, and streams high-resolution, high-demand content to employees.

Based on Kaltura's API, eCDN Plus integrates with Kaltura's CorporateTube video portal; social business platforms including SharePoint, IBN Connections, and Jive; and education platforms including Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle, Desire2Learn, and Canvas.

Kaltura says eCDN Plus will be a boon to IT departments, since it lowers the demands on the network. The product is designed to scale, allowing for an unlimited number of users and locations.

“Kaltura eCDN Plus helps CIOs and their IT departments support the growing consumption of media across the enterprise, while providing the highest quality streaming for live and VOD content,” says Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura's co-founder, chairman, and CEO.

Kaltura will present the new product at Kaltura Connect 2014, its conference taking place in New York City June 16 to 18, 2014.
